Jim Cramer's Stop Trading May 14th

Buy Caterpillar (CAT), Jim Cramer said on CNBC's "Stop Trading!" segment Wednesday.
On news of an earthquake that has cost a great deal of damage and as many as 15,000 lives, Cramer spoke of the "rebuild in China," which he said was an equivalent of Hurricane Katrina in terms of infrastructure buildout. He pointed viewers to Caterpillar and Terex (TRX) as plays on the news. He also recommended Cummins (CMI). "They're all headed up ... because of the rebuild," he said.
Cramer said today's rally has a lot to do with bullish action from mortgage insurer Freddie Mac (FRE). "They have gotten rid of the systemic risk," he said. He called Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae (FNM) the "last of the black holes" for the financial crunch.
Cramer said Freddie is getting a lot of business, which he thinks may actually offset the company's losses. He said bears don't believe that's the case, but he pointed out that Freddie is a well-run company. Fannie is not as good, he said.
In the consumer discretionary space, Cramer said he had thought "the buyers would just call it quits" after the government's stimulus checks came in. He revised his forecast, saying maybe earnings from Kohl's (KSS) tomorrow will be the time to sell.
He expressed his surprise at the continued rise of some retailers. "Certainly we know that Costco (COST) is better than we thought. ... TJX (TJX) was a little disappointing, and look -- it goes up." He pointed out that Wal-Mart (WMT) stock has traded back to where it was before reporting earnings.
"A lot of people feel that the worst is over," Cramer said. He pointed out that the Fed called victory when inflation numbers came in better than expected.
Cramer also said that the year of wind power may arrive this year, not next year as he had previously predicted. He pointed out bullish action in Fluor (FLR) and First Solar (FSLR) as evidence of alternative energy stories.
He also said that Research In Motion (RIMM), Apple (AAPL) and MasterCard (MA) are offering leadership in the economy.
On the housing crisis, Cramer said that Toll Brothers (TOL) CEO Bob Toll was "negative negative negative" when the two spoke on last night's "Mad Money" TV show. He predicted that the housing problem in Florida would be much better in 18 months.

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Jan. 28th

InterContinental Exchange's price had risen dramatically since Cramer recommended the stock on "Mad Money," but has since returned to previous levels, Cramer said. Neither stock has responded favorably to today's news that the CME, which operates the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade, is in talks to buy ICE. "What is the ICE doing down?" Cramer asked.
Cramer also believes the economy is not headed for a recession. He named earnings calls from Honeywell (HON), Caterpillar (CAT), Parker Hannifin (PH) and others as signs of the market's health.
Cramer also noted that the KBW Bank Index and the PHLX Housing Sector Index are rallying because of the rate cuts.
In spite of the positive news, Cramer said he believes more action is needed. Given "the losses that we saw for the quarterlies from a Bank of America (BAC) or a Wachovia (WB) ... I genuinely feel that we are too close to the precipice to stop.
"That doesn't mean that a Honeywell isn't doing fine without it," Cramer cautioned. "It's like 1998, when the economy was booming. ... We had to stop the decline [in the financials] ."
Cramer believes the bank woes may remain independent of the broader economy. "The problems are not with IBM (IBM) or Verizon (VZ) ... AT&T (T ) ... Nokia (NOK) ... Microsoft (MSFT)."
Cramer added that the Federal Reserve's 75-basis-point rate cut last week was helpful. "You needed that cut to be able to raise all that money last week." However, the crisis isn't over. "Home price appreciation is nonexistent. ... We saw that number today. ... The oil futures are saying no recession. I think the Fed cuts are needed again."

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Nov. 6th

Caterpillar (CAT), Deere (DE), Emerson (EMR), Parker-Hannifin (PH): Cramer expressed his disappointment at CAT's conference call and said the economy is no excuse when there are companies like Deere, EMR and PH which are executing "beautifully." Cramer commented, "I don't like explanations... I want results."
Under Armour (UA): Concerning Under Armour, Cramer said, "I definitely would have vomited when I saw these insider sales." Cramer called CEO Kevin Plank's sale of 1.5 million shares for almost $90 million a betrayal of UA's shareholders and agrees with Morgan Stanley's underperform rating.
ExxonMobil (XOM) and FMC (FTI) and Core Labs (CLB): While some were predicting a horrible quarter for XOM, Cramer says it is "right back" at $92. He recommended taking a look at FMC, which dropped 10% after its report and said CLB is an "unbelievable stock" that is $8 from its high. Cramer said, "If you want a real commodity play, it's FTI and it's CLB."

Wall Street in Shambles

Major U.S. stock indexes fell nearly 2 percent on Friday after heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc cut its profit forecast and warned the housing slump was spilling over into other parts of the economy.
With investors mindful of the 20th anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash, the Dow and the S&P tumbled as Caterpillar said the U.S. economy will be "near to, or even in, recession" next year.
Caterpillar also said several of the key U.S. industries it serves were already in recession.
The bleak comments from the economic bellwether, whose stock fell 5.4 percent, helped drag down the shares of other big manufacturers, including 3M Co. , and contributed to investors' shift from stocks to the relative safety of U.S. government debt.
A drop in revenue at Schlumberger Ltd , the world's largest oil service company, sent its shares down 10.4 percent. Energy companies such as Exxon Mobil fell, as oil prices retreated from record highs.
"It's been a pretty tough day," said Linda Duessel, market strategist at Federated Investors, in Pittsburgh. "People are saying there could be a recession because Caterpillar gave some cautionary comments."
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 282.80 points, or 2.04 percent, at 13,606.16. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 29.85 points, or 1.94 percent, at 1,510.23. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 53.76 points, or 1.92 percent, at 2,745.55.
Shares of 3M Co fell 7.3 percent to $87.85 on worries about falling profits in the LCD television market. Caterpillar fell 5.6 percent to $73.32. Investors watch large manufacturers like 3M and Caterpillar for clues on the strength of the U.S. economy.
The S&P financial index <.GSPF> was on track for its first weekly drop since the Federal Reserve cut interest rates on Sept. 18 -- a cut that was meant, in part, to allay concerns about the effects of the credit crunch.
Wachovia Corp , the fourth-largest U.S. bank, posted a 10 percent drop in quarterly profit, hurt by $1.3 billion of write-downs at its investment banking unit as credit markets tightened. Wachovia fell 2.8 percent to $46.81 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Exxon Mobil Corp shares dropped 2.3 percent to $92.89 as U.S. crude shed 86 cents to $88.61 after rising to a record $90.07 a barrel overnight. Schlumberger shares dropped 10.4 percent, or $11.62, to $100.00.
The market's decline coincided with the 20th anniversary of "Black Monday," when the Dow industrials fell nearly 23 percent on Oct. 19, 1987.

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Oct. 11th

Amgen (AMGN), Celgene (CELG): Cramer is nervous that Amgen's management hasn't been saying more about the company's pipeline, even though the risk is 3 points and the reward is 7 points. He comments that Celgene also has significant upside potential.
J.P Morgan (JPM), Caterpillar (CAT), Deere (DE): Cramer would stay away from JP Morgan because of potential writedowns, and prefers CAT, in spite of the fact that Deere has upstaged CAT lately.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Oct. 8th

ValueClick (VCLK): Cramer said belongs to the same family of stocks as DoubleClick (DCLK), which Google (GOOG) is buying, and aQuantive, which Microsoft (MSFT) bought earlier this year. He was right about aQuantive and he believes he will be right about ValueClick. Microsoft might make this defensive acquisition of ValueClick, or there's a possibility Yahoo! (YHOO) could pick it up.
Jakks Pacific (JAKK), which has a lot of great toys, is that stock, he said. People should want this stock for its Hannah Montana, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Pokemon figurines. Cramer says is "irresistible," and could be bought as a trade or investment. It is trading at its growth rate and at "a big discount" to Hasbro (HAS) and Mattel.
On the Defensive Line
New York Giants defensive lineman Michael Strahan joined Cramer in the studio to tackle finance together. Strahan told Cramer he is very conservative and realistic about investing. Strahan also owns one stock, Under Armour (UA), which he said he got into during the company's IPO. Since buying Under Armour, Strahan said, his costs have been covered and he is operating on profits.
Mad Mail
Caterpillar (CAT): has substantial international exposure and is not a hostage of the U.S. GDP. This is part of the reason he likes Caterpillar so much. He owns it for his Action Alerts PLUS charitable trust.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Oct. 5th

Cramer began his show Friday saying how well his "Four Horsemen of Tech"; Google (GOOG), Research in Motion (RIMM), Apple (AAPL), and Amazon.com (AMZN) are doing. "$80 to $120" stocks list. The stocks were Boeing(BA), Caterpillar(CAT), ConocoPhillips (COP), Air Products(APD), Apache(APA), Terex(TEX), and Energizer(ENR). Cramer admitted that he recommended these stocks too late in the bull market, and that most of these stocks fell after he first recommended them . They are up 5% now, and Cramer thinks that these stocks are the "perfect group." He likes CAT and TEX the best, followed by COP.
Overlooked IPOs: Masimo (MASI). Cramer believes that it has a superior product and a great recurring revenue stream with purchases of disposable parts for the medical sensor they make.
After the lightning round Cramer talked about Allergan (AGN). Cramer said people have a desire to look good, and this stock is in a great position to profit, while moving into traditional medical market. He then had the CEO of the company on the phone to discuss future earnings and sales.
Mad Mail: Cramer answered a few emails. He told viewers to ignore the downgrade on Boeing (BA) since he thinks the stock is going higher. He then answered a question about FiberTower (FTWR), which he doesn't like. In response to another emailer, Cramer said he likes Starent (STAR) because it's an intellectual property play.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 28th

Cramer began Friday's show by sharing his CEO Hall of Shame. These are stocks that he thinks would be better off if the CEO quit or was forced out.
Alcatel-Lucent (ALU): Cramer thinks the CEO was given an ultimatum to deliver results now.
Marsh McLennan (MMC): The company should be broken up, and that splitting the company up is the only way shares will increase unless the CEO leaves.

Next, Cramer took some phone calls about other stocks with bad CEOs, like Pall (PLL). He also told people that he can't recommend buying Sirius (SIRI) now because it's too expensive, and that he thinks you should stay away from Palm (PALM).
Next, Cramer did a "Speculation Friday" segment, where he recommends high risk stocks. BioMarin (BMRN), a small biotech firm. It has developed a drug for pheylketonuria that will be the only drug on the market, protecting it from generic competition until 2015 in the US and 2018 in Europe. Cramer thinks the drug will be approved by the end of the year, but if it doesn't, it will be a risky investment.
Other calls: La-z-boy (LZB): Cramer doesn't like, and Sangamo BioSci (SGMO):He thinks is very risky.

After the lightning round, Cramer discussed what stocks he think will take the Dow to his year end target of 14,548. They are American Express (AXP), AIG (AIG), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Citigroup (C), DuPont (DD), Altria (MO), Boeing (BA), and Caterpillar (CAT).

In the last segment, Cramer answered some emails. He changed his mind on GigaMedia (GIGM), making it a buy now, and told viewers to wait for a pullback on (AMZN) since it's "marked up heavily."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 18th

Cramer opened saying the Fed "knows something" and retired his "they know nothing button," in response to the Fed lowering interest rates by 0.5%. They also decreased the discount rate by 50 basis points to 5.25%. Cramer also believes there are "three more rate cuts" to come in the future, which will lead the market to recovery. Look for stocks that yield more than treasuries. In terms of stocks, Cramer said, "almost everything works now," and you should consider buying the following stocks:
Wachovia (WB) "should go higher."
Google (GOOG), Cramer believes is going to break out.
Foster Wheeler (FWLT), Deere (DE), Caterpillar (CAT- which Cramer owns for his charitable trust Action Alerts PLUS) should work now as well.
ExxonMobil (XOM) and ConocoPhillips (COP)—should both work for oil.
Bullish Icahn: one of his favorite activist investors is "proven winner" Carl Icahn. Cramer says Icahn's been "extremely bullish" on one big software company: BEA Systems (BEAS). Icahn wants BEAS to sell because they haven't been able to prosper as a stand-alone company. Bottom line: Cramer likes fundamentals of BEAS, takeover is potential, and is a company with "limited downside."
Prescription Plan: Cramer discussed a bill that passed in Congress that will require doctors to use either tamper resistant paper or electronic records. He thinks will benefit Quality Systems (QSII) and All Scripts (MDRX).
Genesis Lease (GLS), CEO John McMahon on the show and Cramer asked him why his company is not doing well, despite the fact that its’ 8.2% yield. McMahon said, “mispricing of the stock.” Cramer recommends buying GLS.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 17th

RRSat Global Communications Network (RRST) is an Israeli satellite company that provides uplinks for 295 TV shows and 80 radio stations worldwide. "A company that's a total enigma," says Cramer. RRST is a very small company with a $300 million market cap. Cramer advised viewers not to buy it yet, "because you'll pay more than you should." RRST's content distribution services includes Uplink, Downlink, Encryption and Storage. Controls 2% of its market currently, but has 40% growth and is a good play for the growth of satellite television.

Grant Prideco Inc. (GRP). Although stocks in the oil service group have mostly gone up, Cramer provided investors with the "ultimate laggard that is ready to roll" Grant Prideco Inc.(GRP) is the world leader in drill stem & bit technology, production and sales. Looking for an oil stock that hasn't a bad run? Cramer says, "GRP still has room to head higher." Trading at $55 a share, Cramer believes it's "a total steal." Wait until the fed meeting is over, than consider buying GRP.

Mad Mail: Nvidia (NVDA), Cramer told a viewer that as he considers NVDA fundamentals to be very strong. He would use any weakness in it as a buying opportunity. Caterpillar (CAT), Cramer told another viewer that he likes CAT and even owns it for his charitable trust, Action Alerts Plus. But at the same time he said people think it"s a "housing play" and no matter how hard he tries he hasn't been "able to change that wrong perception."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 17th

Hedging Against the Fed: Grant Prideco (GRP), National Oilwell Varco (NOV)
Cramer thinks oil companies will be fine regardless of whether or not the Fed cuts, and while oils have been rising, GRP is the "ultimate laggard that is ready to roll." In spite of its "phenomenal" drill pipe business, GRP has not yet seen gains and its CEO has a tendency to underpromise and overdeliver, said Cramer. At $55, GRP is a "steal" compared to NOV which deals more with machinery while GRP, "the Gilette of oil service" deals with consumables.
RRSat Global Communications Network (RRST), Adobe Systems (ADBE)
This Israeli Satellite company is Bernanke-proof and has uplinks for 295 TV shows and 80 radio stations around the world. Cramer thinks RRST will continue to gain market share because it has the unique, cost-saving ability to deliver content in one satellite hop. Only 4 analyst cover RRST which has 2% of the market and 40% growth. Cramer warned viewers that the stock is speculative, should be bought next week and with market orders. He added a note that those who had bought ADBE should sell a bit because of recent run.
Mad Mail: Nvidia (NVDA), Caterpillar (CAT)
Cramer said he would buy NVDA on any weakness. He expressed disappointment at his inability to persuade people that CAT is not a housing play.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 14th

Wall of Shame: Citigroup (C), Syntax Brillian (BRLC), Alcatel Lucent (ALU)
Cramer, equal opportunity critic of bad CEOs described three current Wall of Shame chiefs who disgraced themselves even further last week. Cramer owns Citigroup for his charitable trust and has been on a crusade to have CEO Chuck Prince removed, because the bank's management is the worst he has ever seen due to unwise investments. Only their huge deposit base will save them. However, Cramer would hold Citigroup, because he feels it has potential. BRLC dropped 35% last week thanks to chief Vincent Sollito's passing the buck to Asian partners after the company failed to meet earnings expectations, according to Cramer, who added he resents the way Sollito painted a rosy picture of the company when he appeared on Mad Money. Cramer commented on Patricia Russo's remarkable lack of execution as the company's orders shrink amid a telco boom benefiting ALU's competitors. He would sell BRLC and ALU.
Outfoxing the Fed: Coca-Cola (KO), PepsiCo (PEP), Kellogg (K), General Mills (GIS), Wachovia (WB), Goldman Sachs (GS), Morgan Stanley (MS)
Cramer discussed three scenarios: the Fed would not cut rates and create Armageddon, or would introduce a quarter or a half-point cut, either of which will not yield good results. Insisting that the Fed needs to cut rates a full point, Cramer said lesser cuts will lead to hard selling, and it is a good time to look at classic defensive stocks such as KO, PEP, K, and GIS. A half-point cut on Tuesday means it is time to buy solid financial stocks such as WB, MS and GS.
Fantasy Football Stocks: Exxon Mobil (XOM), Medco Health Solutions (MHS) Enterprise Products Partners (EPD), was Research In Motion (RIMM), Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold (FCX)
To conclude his fantasy football series, Cramer revealed his team picks on Friday. His quarterback was XOM which, like Peyton Manning of the Colts, is expected to match last year's great performance. MHS is a strong defensive play that could go to $100 and is as dependable as the New England Patriots. With a 6.5% yield and a good combination of safety and defense, EPD was Cramer's pick for tight end, and reminded him of Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys. RIMM is doing fabulously be every metric and could double again. Cramer compared the company's potential growth to that New England Patriot wide receiver Randy Moss. FCX can survive a difficult economy, according to Cramer, and its gold business should do well in China. He picks FCX as his running back, similar to LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers.
Mad Mail: Caterpillar (CAT), EMC (EMC) and VMware (VMW)
Cramer told one writer that CAT is a good CEEMEA (Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia) play. Another writer questioned the need to diversify in a tech boom, and said 65% of her portfolio was made up of tech stocks. Cramer reminded her of the dot.com fiasco in the 90s. Finally, a writer asked Cramer why he preferred owning EMC to VMW. He replied that EMC benefits from the success of VMW but is cheaper and safer.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap July 26th

Bull Meat Barbecue
Although Thursday's selloff resembled a "bull meat barbecue," Cramer encouraged viewers not to lose heart and reiterated his principle that there is always a bull market somewhere. He made a checklist of three kinds of stocks to avoid: Stocks, such as housing, which need low interest rates to go higher, stocks (restaurants, retail etc.) with too much leverage to the domestic economy, and companies which must borrow to make an acquisition. Cramer emphasized the importance of selling these stocks, especially for those who did not lighten their portfolios before the selloff and those who cannot take the pain and wait for these sectors to recover.
