Jim Cramer's Stop Trading May 14th

Buy Caterpillar (CAT), Jim Cramer said on CNBC's "Stop Trading!" segment Wednesday.
On news of an earthquake that has cost a great deal of damage and as many as 15,000 lives, Cramer spoke of the "rebuild in China," which he said was an equivalent of Hurricane Katrina in terms of infrastructure buildout. He pointed viewers to Caterpillar and Terex (TRX) as plays on the news. He also recommended Cummins (CMI). "They're all headed up ... because of the rebuild," he said.
Cramer said today's rally has a lot to do with bullish action from mortgage insurer Freddie Mac (FRE). "They have gotten rid of the systemic risk," he said. He called Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae (FNM) the "last of the black holes" for the financial crunch.
Cramer said Freddie is getting a lot of business, which he thinks may actually offset the company's losses. He said bears don't believe that's the case, but he pointed out that Freddie is a well-run company. Fannie is not as good, he said.
In the consumer discretionary space, Cramer said he had thought "the buyers would just call it quits" after the government's stimulus checks came in. He revised his forecast, saying maybe earnings from Kohl's (KSS) tomorrow will be the time to sell.
He expressed his surprise at the continued rise of some retailers. "Certainly we know that Costco (COST) is better than we thought. ... TJX (TJX) was a little disappointing, and look -- it goes up." He pointed out that Wal-Mart (WMT) stock has traded back to where it was before reporting earnings.
"A lot of people feel that the worst is over," Cramer said. He pointed out that the Fed called victory when inflation numbers came in better than expected.
Cramer also said that the year of wind power may arrive this year, not next year as he had previously predicted. He pointed out bullish action in Fluor (FLR) and First Solar (FSLR) as evidence of alternative energy stories.
He also said that Research In Motion (RIMM), Apple (AAPL) and MasterCard (MA) are offering leadership in the economy.
On the housing crisis, Cramer said that Toll Brothers (TOL) CEO Bob Toll was "negative negative negative" when the two spoke on last night's "Mad Money" TV show. He predicted that the housing problem in Florida would be much better in 18 months.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Review Dec. 7th

The Fuel is Greener: Deere (DE), Monsanto (MON), Bunge (BG), Mosaic (MOS), Agrium (AGU), Potash (POT)
When looking at the agriculture bull market, Cramer urged investors to think energy and not food. As oil prices rise, the pressure to develop alternative fuels from soybeans and corn will increase. This has been good news for farming stocks such as Deere, Bunge and Monsanto and especially fertilizer companies, Agrium, Potash and Mosaic. "All of these gains have been driven by demand," Cramer said and sees years of upside in this sector. However, since many agriculture stocks have already increased substantially, Cramer would wait for a decline before buying many of them.
Still Time for NYSE Euronext (NYX)
While NYX has been the worst performing stock Cramer has seen in 26 years in the business, he would stay with it. His thesis for owning the stock is unchanged and the only reason NYX went down is because "it was just going down…. Even though you hate owning it, nothing fundamental has changed for the company underneath it." In fact, NYX keeps beating estimates, its fundamentals are better than they were at the beginning of the year, and Cramer thinks this bear raid on NYX can't last forever.
Sitting on the Fed Fence: Kroger (KR), Costco (COST)
Cramer advised a wait and see strategy concerning the Fed meeting on Tuesday. A quarter point cut in rates could lead to recession fears and may bring some stocks down. On the other hand, a half a point cut could be a buying opportunity for banks tech and industrials. If it weren’t for the meeting, Cramer would suggest buying Costco and Kroger ahead of their earnings reports, but now he recommends waiting before making a move.
Meet the Mutual Fund Manager: Ron Muhlenkamp of Muhlenkamp (MUHLX) with stocks: Altria (MO), Devon Energy (DVN), Cemex (CX)
Cramer said investing in a mutual fund is really an investment in the fund’s manager, and invited Ron Muhlenkamp to discuss his strategy of finding good companies at low prices, particularly names others don’t recognize yet or like. He discussed MO, one of the fund’s holdings and said there is room to grow for DVN and CX.

Jim Cramer's Wall Street Confidential Oct. 10th

Costco (COST), Wal-Mart (WMT), Kroger (KR), Safeway (SWY), Home Depot (HD), Sears (SHLD), Lowe's (LOW), Kohl's (KSS), J.C. Penney (JCP), Macy's (M)
When retail swoons, bears are quick to blame the sluggish consumer, but Cramer believes a more nuanced view is in order. Even though consumers don't want to shop at Wal-Mart, Safeway or Kroger because of boredom, or at Home Depot, Lowe's and Sears because of housing problems doesn't mean they don't want to shop. Today's consumer wants to be entertained, pampered and is looking for a bargain, said Cramer. Target and Wal-Mart no longer provide this experience, but Costco is fitting the bill because "it is a better place to shop." The consumer is not interested in Kohl's, J.C. Penney or Macy's, particularly the latter, since the stores have gone downhill because of the consolidation, said Cramer. While Kohl's is okay, its merchandise did not fit the weather. However, Costco is "a more exciting, treasure-hunt place to shop," Cramer said. "I think you're seeing a tiering here and the tiering has to do with execution, performance and fun to shop, not the consumer."

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Oct. 10th

Costco (COST), GAP (GPS), Valero (VLO), Chevron(CVX): Cramer prefers COST to other warehouse retailers because "They have an exciting thing… they made it so you can't regard it as a Wal-Mart or a Target." He also likes GPS because of its incentives for new management. In spite of warnings from Valero and Chevron, Cramer would keep the faith, because he has seen refining margins "explode" recently.

Wall Street Closes Mixed on Earnings

Wall Street stumbled through a lopsided session Wednesday, closing mixed as profit warnings and news from blue chip names Alcoa Inc. and Boeing Co. dragged down the Dow Jones industrial average but largely spared technology stocks.
A pullback was to be expected after the Dow and the Standard & Poor's 500 index finished at new highs Tuesday amid enthusiasm over comments from Federal Reserve policymakers about interest rates, but corporate news appeared to hasten Wednesday's slide.
Declines by Dow components Boeing and Alcoa, among others, hurt the 30-stock index. Meanwhile, International Paper Co. and Chevron Corp. moved lower on profit news.
With investors thumbing through fresh quarterly results and corporate announcements, the latest economic readings did little to dislodge the dichotomy between blue chips and tech stocks. A report showed inventories among U.S. wholesalers ticked up in August, while a trade group for real estate agents warned the drop in sales of existing homes this year will be steeper than had been expected.
The stock market's uneven but still relatively calm trading Wednesday followed a surge the day before that was sparked by release of the minutes from the Fed's last meeting. Wall Street initially was ebullient that the Fed didn't appear to rule out further rate cuts but, on reflection, some investors seemed to be questioning whether that response was a little too optimistic.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap July 13th

Avoid Private Equity: Blackstone (NYSE: BX - News)
Cramer would not buy private equity firms and suggests staying away from the Apollo and KKR IPOs. A former hedge fund manager, Cramer says he knows a thing or two about private equity. He believes the stocks are too expensive and investors would be catching these names at the end of the trend. In addition, if a Democrat wins the White House, he or she will propose taxing "the heck out" of private equity and squeezing the firms dry. Cramer added there are "too many people with too much money trying to get a piece of the action." Finally, companies are taken public at the end of a cycle, and "coming public means they're selling, not buying," Cramer said.
That 80s Show: Apache (NYSE: APA - News)
This week, Cramer has been discussing his theory that once the $80 threshold is broken, a stock becomes "annointed," rises to $100 and eventually reaches $120. He added once a stock hits $100 it will only go down again if it splits. Apache is a name Cramer believes will provide support for this theory because "people will keep buying it." Oil is one of the sectors driving the market, and Apache's advantage over other oil companies is its ability to thrive in challenging areas because of its low production costs and to improve on cheap products it purchases from its rivals. Cramer adds APA is trading at only 1o times earnings; "This stock is mispriced!" Most of APA's oil reserves are in the U.S., and the company has raised its product guidance. "I would buy APA before it gets away from you," Cramer said.
Overcoming Soros: Bon-Ton (NasdaqGS: BONT - News), CVS (NYSE: CVS - News), Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD - News), Qualcomm (NasdaqGS: QCOM - News), Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN - News), Gen-Probe (NasdaqGS: GPRO - News)
Cramer says he doesn't want people to invest like George Soros, "I want to be better than Soros!" For instance, Soros owns BONT which Cramer thinks is alright for the long term, but "short term it really stinks." Although Cramer likes Soros pick CVS after its Caremark acquisition, he prefers RAD. He would also swap Soros' QCOM for his choice, TXN. However, Cramer agrees with Soros about buying GPRO because the stock is "instant growth" with 40% market share for blood screening tests and 58% market share for chlamydia and gonorrhea tests. The company is also making deals with industry leaders such as General Electric, 3M and Millipore.
Mad Mail: Manitowoc (NYSE: MTW - News), Costco (NasdaqGS: COST - News), Casey's (NasdaqGS: CASY - News), Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD - News), Cemex (NYSE: CX - News)
Cramer agreed with a viewer that MTW fits his $80-$100-$120 theory. Since COST is a gas station as well as a retailer, he considers it a viable alternative to CASY. Cramer added he isn't concerned about RAD after the Medicaid ruling, but would let the "good times roll." Being locked in by the housing cycle is not a bad thing for those who hold CX, he said, because the company is "growing like a weed."

Best Buy (NYSE: BBY - News), Circuit City (NYSE: CC - News) and Costco (NasdaqGS: COST - News): BBY is not the best buy because warnings from Home Depot and Sears. While Cramer searched desperately for a reason to be bullish on CC, he couldn't find one. COST is Cramer's favorite warehouse retailer because it is where "the rich people shop."
Whirlpool (NYSE: WHR - News) and Black & Decker (NYSE: BDK - News): Cramer would avoid these stocks because he doesn't envision a housing turnaround in the near future.

Stocks Rise After Acquisitions

Stocks plodded higher Thursday as Wall Street reacted warmly to another batch of acquisitions and shrugged off a weak reading of the nation's gross domestic product.
The latest estimate of first-quarter GDP came in at 0.6 percent, the Commerce Department said, lower than the average economist estimate of 0.8 percent and the 1.3 percent projected in April. The GDP number was the worst in more than four years, but investors did not sell off, as it raises the chance of an interest rate cut later this year -- a move that could increase spending.
And although Wall Street remains unsure about the economic and interest rate outlook, it continues to be buoyed by the unrelenting surge of takeovers, which are on track to beat last year's record tab of $4 trillion.
On Thursday, banking company Wachovia Corp. said it would acquire A.G. Edwards Inc. for $6.8 billion in cash and stock to form one of the largest retail stock brokerages in the country. And payroll processor Ceridian Corp. said late Wednesday it will be bought out by investment firm Thomas H. Lee Partners LP and insurance provider Fidelity National Financial Inc. for about $5.3 billion.
In the first hour of trading, the Dow Jones industrial average gained 19.02, or 0.14 percent, to 13,652.10, after reaching a new trading high of 13,673.07.
Broader stock indicators also rose.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index advanced 2.92, or 0.19 percent, to 1,533.15, after soaring to a record close on Wednesday for the first time since March 2000.
The technology-dominated Nasdaq composite index added 9.81, or 0.38 percent, at 2,602.40.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap May 25

More Dow Picks: Pfizer (NYSE: PFE - News), Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG - News), United Technologies (NYSE: UTX - News), Verizon (NYSE: VZ - News), Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News), Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS - News)
Cramer says PFE is "stuck" and owning the stock is a bit like owning a bond with a tad more upside. He admits he was too bullish on PG when he predicted it could go to $67 on the weak dollar and organic growth. However, Cramer says he wasn't bullish enough on UTX which is doing well internationally and is in "hyper-drive." He predicts UTX is headed to $73. Cramer also admits he underestimated VZ's fiberoptics and its wireless, and he would buy it for its yield and growth in spite of its 14% rise. WMT should go to $52 but not higher, predicts Cramer, as long as CEO Lee Scott is in charge. While he likes DIS, he thinks its parks will be casualty to gas prices and the success of its Pirates of the Caribbean film is priced into the stock.
Call Me Darling (AMEX: DAR - News)
Cramer says Darling is "as speculative as it gets" with one business that transforms animal fats into oil and a restaurant business. DAR is "en fuego," but Cramer would wait for a big selloff before buying. After that, DAR needs more analysts covering it before it tops off, and Cramer predicts the stock will go "through the roof" when it moves into the renewable energy sector. Like Tyson, DAR could go into biodiesel, but it will get pummeled first, and when it does, Cramer would buy.
Game Plan for the Coming Week: Polo Ralph Lauren (NYSE: RL - News), Costco (NasdaqGS: COST - News), Sears (NasdaqGS: SHLD - News)
Cramer would stay away with tech, and would move into retail. He recalled RL got "creamed" after its last quarter, which was excellent, but which led to a selloff because of a negative perception about the company's guidance. Therefore, Cramer would buy half a position before RL reports and half after. While he praises COST as a "delivery machine" he believes the company will continue to be misunderstood, and would buy after its earnings report. Cramer suggests pickkng up SHLD if it gets pummeled, and if not, to wait for the next drop in the stock.
CEO Interview: Catherine Burzik, Kinetic Concepts (NYSE: KCI - News)
Catherine Burzik wanted to reassure viewers that KCI will not be hurt by competition from Smith & Nephew after its BlueSky Medical acquisition. "I'm not sure the analysts and the Street understand the market we are in here," she said. "This is a really large market ... and it is significantly unpenetrated. There's a really large opportunity." Burzik added that since Americans are getting "fatter by the day," there will be a great demand for KCI's therapeutic services. Cramer gives the company a triple buy.

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading April 17

Costco (NasdaqGS: COST): Cramer praises Piper Jaffray's upgrade of Costco, and believes it is not just about real estate, but would buy the stock because of CEO Jim Sinegal's expertise as a merchant.
St. Jude (NYSE: STJ - News): Concerning implantable cardiac devices, "the bad news is in these stocks," and Cramer would buy call options and regular shares of STJ, which he feels has the best chance of being purchased when compared with Boston Scientific and Medtronic. On housing, Cramer would sell into the home starts report, which was better than expected. He doesn't see a bright future for the sector as supply will continue to outstrip demand.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Mar. 28

Breaking Up is Good to Do: Heinz (NYSE: HNZ - News), Cadbury Schweppes (NYSE: CSG - News), American Standard (NYSE: ASD - News), Clorox (NYSE: CLX - News), ConAgra Foods (NYSE: CAG - News)
Cramer remarks "catalyst shareholder" Nelson Peltz has given valuable advice to HNZ and CSG and on March 15, CSG announced it is breaking up. He comments such a move has been good for other companies such as ASD, and discusses two other companies which could make "a cool 25% on your investment" with a split. He notes private equity firms are looking even at "tired old brands," and thinks Clorox's brand combination "makes no sense whatsoever." In addition, Cramer comments that keeping Conagra's problematic mixture of brands is like making a sandwich out of too many ingredients, and since both companies are in "the sweet spot of value creation" they could successfully spin-off their brands or sell them to private equity firms. Even if CLX and CAG don't split up, they have little downside, are cheap and good stocks to own in an ecomonic downturn, said Cramer.
Benefit of the Doubt: Jim Sinegal, the CEO of Costco (NasdaqGS: COST) and Lawrence Montgomery, CEO of Kohl's (NYSE: KSS - News)Continuing his series on CEOs who deserve the benefit of the doubt, Cramer thinks investors should have faith in Costco's Jim Sinegal, in spite of the stock's decline following the implementation of a stricter return policy. He says although COST may not be finished going down, he would trust Sinegal. Cramer added it is "ludicrous" that Wall Street does not trust Lawrence Montgomery of KSS, since the stores offer quality merchandise at fair prices. While he does not strongly recommend the stock at $75.75, Cramer says to buy KSS once it dips.
Mad Mail: Sirius Satellite Radio (NasdaqGS: SIRI), XM Satellite Radio (NasdaqGS: XMSR), Take-Two Interactive (NasdaqGS: TTWO)
Cramer predicts SIRI will rise to $5 if it merges with XMSR, but if not, it would drop from $3।26 to $1 or $2 and XMSR would be "wiped out." TTWO's numbers are nonexistent, said Cramer who liked the stock but would not buy it, because without a deal, it will go lower.
