Jim Cramer's Stop Trading 11/18

"Retail's a different animal when things get bad," said Jim Cramer on Tuesday's "Stop Trading!" segment on CNBC. "When we get double-digit unemployment, everything goes."
He said the dollar stores, such as Family Dollar(FDO), are the only thing that might be safe. Not even Sears(SHLD), which he said is not over-leveraged and has a "really good" balance sheet, can avoid the fate of retailers such as Saks(SKS).

"Why should Sears be immune from this?" he said.

"Eddie's my friend," said Cramer, referring to Sears Chariman Eddie Lampert, but "he's got Home Depot(HD) going against him and Lowe's(LOW) going against him."

Addressing big oil, Cramer said that Exxon Mobil(XOM) is his tell. Cramer said that when oil was at $80 to $100, stocks such as Exxon "telegraphed a dramatic decrease in oil" to $60.

Exxon "predicted everything that happened, and it was six months ahead of everything," he said. "And that stock's done going down."

If Exxon was right before, Cramer said, it might be right again. Now he sees a bottom for oil in the $50s and a $2 bottom in gasoline. "You have to believe that oil might be bottoming, because that's what the stocks told you before," he said. He also mentioned that Anadarko (APC) "has moved up lately."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Review May 16th

Jim Cramer took up the protracted debate over the market's bottom on his his Mad Money TV show Friday.
Cramer said he is not taking sides in the debate, trying instead to remain flexible.
Noting there are arguments both for and against calling a bottom in the stock market, he emphasized just having the debate itself is a good sign.
On the upside, Cramer cited the PHLX Housing Sector Index. "This home building index won't go down, despite the fact home builders are reporting horrible numbers," he said. "When you get bad news and nothing happens, that's a bottom."
On the downside, he pointed out, there are still many bearish arguments, including the weakening dollar and consumer confidence. While home prices may be stabilizing in some areas of the country, they continue to weaken in others.
Cramer said he's looking to Lowe's (LOW) and Home Depot (HD), both of which report next week, for clarity on the real state of the housing market.
Overall, Cramer told viewers that he's sticking with the same long-term themes he's discussed over the past few weeks. And that they are international infrastructure, oil and natural gas, mining and minerals, and defense stocks. He also likes his "new technology" companies that are making real solutions for real problems.

CNBC's Fast Money Recap Nov. 19th

The Dow closed down 218 points and the Nasdaq fell 43 points on Monday. Finerman sees storm clouds are everywhere and the Goldman downgrade of Citigroup (C) really hurt the markets. Najarian had a fun day trading. He also thinks the financial sector is in big trouble and he is extremely worried about General Motors (GM) which fell below $27.
Louise Yamada, a highly ranked technician on Wall Street, joined the show to discuss her analysis on the technicals of the market. She is currently worried that the S&P 500 could break 1406, which would signal to her an end of the longer-term uptrend. Yamada is still bullish on Cisco Systems (CSCO) and she would look to buy pullbacks on the name. She looked at the chart on Broadcom (BRCM) calling it a sell because it hasn't followed through after a false break-out. The chart on Coca-Cola (KO) is initiating an uptrend according to Yamada, so she would be a buyer of KO. Bed Bath and Beyond (BBBY) should be sold.
Retail
Nordstrom (JWN) reported a 22% rise in third-quarter profits helped by an extra week of sales.
Sears Holdings (SHLD) disclosed it has taken a 13.7% stake in Restoration Hardware (RSTO) and the possibility of proposing an acquisition.
Target (TGT) is set to report earnings Tuesday before the opening bell.
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) clocked a 28% jump in profits off of strong notebook sales.
Medtronic (MDT) reported a 2% decline in profits, but the stock trades 3% higher after hours.
Lowe's (LOW) dropped 7% after reporting a 10% decline in profits due to the weak housing market.
Celgene (CELG) bought Pharmion (PHRM) for $2.9 billion. Adami thinks that Phizer must make a similar acquisition.
EchoStar (DISH) shares exploded higher Monday after Citigroup said there was a 65% chance that AT&T (T) will buy DISH.
Ultimate Fighting is now the fasting growing spectator sport in the United States. Macke says look for growth in cable companies and satellite companies like Viacom (VIA) and EchoStar. He also thinks makers of energy drinks like Coca-Cola will benefit. He said avoid the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) because the UFC is taking share. Lastly, Macke speculated that Anheuser-Busch (BUD) could be near a beverage deal with the UFC.
Pops & Drops
Pops - Xerox (XRX) traded up 2%.
Intercontinental Exchange traded up 3%
VeriSign (VRSN) traded up 2%.
Drops - E*TRADE (ETFC) fell 13% even with speculation of a takeover by Ameritrade (AMTD)
Wynn Resorts (WYNN) fell 7%
Genesco (GCO) plunged 24%.
Disney (DIS) fell 4%
General Motors (GM) fell 8% after the automaker announced plans for year-end discounts to clear out inventory.
Dillard's (DDS) fell 5%.
Tween Brands (TWB) fell 13%
Final Trade
Macke would purchase Dicks Sporting Goods (DKS) and Target on any selloff Tuesday
Najarian advises buying EchoStar (DISH) on a pullback under $44.
Finerman is long Goldman Sachs Group (GS) and short Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH).
Adami recommends Vodafone Group (VOD) for a play on China.

Jim Cramer's Wall Street Confidential Nov. 6th

Target (TGT), J.C. Penney (JCP), Kohl's (KSS) and Lowe's (LOW)
Things are going to get uglier in retail, and that is the precise reason, according to Cramer, investors should go shopping in the sector; "It is so counterintuitive sometimes to be right," he went on. "But all of my career, the biggest money I've made is when I was counterintuitive. Retail is awful, the numbers will be awful and you need to buy."
Cramer suggests buying some usually strong retail names such as TGT, which should sell its credit card division, JCP, KSS and LOW. He believes the decline in the stocks may not be due to selling, but may be in anticipation of the National Retail Association's prediction of a sluggish holiday season.
"We should have a cathartic down leg if the same-store sales are as bad as I think, but it's entirely possible that that's when the hedge funds that have been very short this group cover," Cramer predicted.
He suggests buying half a position in retail now and half when the fundamentals get worse. However, he adds the stock prices might not necessarily drop.

Jim Cramer's Wall Street Confidential Oct. 10th

Costco (COST), Wal-Mart (WMT), Kroger (KR), Safeway (SWY), Home Depot (HD), Sears (SHLD), Lowe's (LOW), Kohl's (KSS), J.C. Penney (JCP), Macy's (M)
When retail swoons, bears are quick to blame the sluggish consumer, but Cramer believes a more nuanced view is in order. Even though consumers don't want to shop at Wal-Mart, Safeway or Kroger because of boredom, or at Home Depot, Lowe's and Sears because of housing problems doesn't mean they don't want to shop. Today's consumer wants to be entertained, pampered and is looking for a bargain, said Cramer. Target and Wal-Mart no longer provide this experience, but Costco is fitting the bill because "it is a better place to shop." The consumer is not interested in Kohl's, J.C. Penney or Macy's, particularly the latter, since the stores have gone downhill because of the consolidation, said Cramer. While Kohl's is okay, its merchandise did not fit the weather. However, Costco is "a more exciting, treasure-hunt place to shop," Cramer said. "I think you're seeing a tiering here and the tiering has to do with execution, performance and fun to shop, not the consumer."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Sept. 24th

Cramer unveiled his four horsemen of technology, AAPL, RIMM, AMZN, & GOOG back in June and says they have been a runaway success. Recommends taking some off the top and wait until stocks are cheaper to get back in. Cramer also believes that these companies will continue their upward climb in the long term.

First caller asking whether the tech sector is still the best place to be? Cramer says drop out of tech right now and wait for the pullback.
Second caller inquired on stock splits and asked if Cramer thinks a stock split is forthcoming for Apple (AAPL). Cramer said he wouldn't be surprised.
Third called asking if EMC is a better value than VZW. Cramer said he likes EMC.

Cramer's getting bullish on companies taking a "no bull" approach to business. He looked at companies that started in U.S. but have expanded. U.S. is no longer a growth country. Cramer says invest in companies with growing international exposure. Best Buy (BBY): Creating value with through the Canadian loon and expanding elsewhere globally. International sales are huge with Best Buy. Circuit City is shrinking its business. Cramer stated the success and future potential of Best Buy's Geek Squad.

Next, Cramer talked about the fact that the US economy is not in great shape, so we should look abroad for investment opportunities. He specifically mentioned Carnival Cruises (CCL) as a buy, and thinks that it will beat Royal Caribbean (RCL) in the growing European cruise market.

Airgas (ARG): Cramer spoke to the CEO of Airgas about its excellent performance. Cramer thinks this is another stock to buy after the pullback.
Lowe's (LOW): Finally, Cramer mentioned that Lowes was hurt in the market downturn. He reiterated his pullback theory, saying retail will lead the way down, followed by tech.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap June 7th

A Reliab-Oil Stock: XTO Energy (NYSE: XTO - News)
Cramer says he has finally found the "perfect" oil company which takes advantage of high oil prices by exploiting new properties rather than just buying back stock. XTO has risen 14% since Cramer recommended it in March, and with its recent acquisition of Dominion Resources, it should see double-digit growth for four or five years, according to Cramer.
Interview with Duncan Niederauer, president and co-COO of NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX - News)
Cramer's growth stock for 2007, NYX, is down 15%, but he is not backing away. While Euronext is growing rapidly, Cramer admits NYX is turning into the "worst performing" stock he's seen. Duncan Niederauer commented NYX is the only multi-product exchange; "It's still a wonderfully scaleable business, and a lot of the market doesn't know how to evaluate us because we're not quite as attractive as the derivative-only exchanges," he told Cramer. However, he added that NYX is still more attractive than the equity-only exchanges. Concerning derivatives, Niederauer said, "The U.S. futures market is still a hole in our global footprint .... The only way in is an acquisition." Cramer commented on how rapidly NYX drops, and Niederauer conceded NYX "trades in a very choppy way for a large-cap company." Although he can't predict when NYX will start moving up, Cramer says he is sticking with NYX.
Sell Block: Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC - News), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ - News), Guess? (NYSE: GES - News), Monster Worldwide (NasdaqGS: MNST - News)
While Cramer's predictions of NSC 's and JNJ 's declines were fulfilled, and GES jumped as he expected, Cramer admitted he missed "the big one" of the week, namely, the selloff and vitality in the bond market. The lesson from this error is "You ignore what the big institutional investors are doing at your own peril," Cramer said, and added investors should not overlook the bond market. Cramer is still hopeful that MNST will win a bid and believes the new CFO,Timothy Yates, will make moves toward selling the company.
Mad Mail: Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News), Target (NYSE: TGT - News), Lowes (NYSE: LOW - News), Verizon (NYSE: VZ - News)
Cramer says WMT's risk reward is superior to TGT's, which should be sold because it has increased substantially. Since WMT is not currently buildng new stores, the company can buy back stock and revamp its existing stores. Cramer adds he also likes LOW. He told another viewer Verizon has a solid yield and increasing growth. Concerning what action to take in the decline, Cramer coached his viewers; "Let it come in -- let the market open down ... If it opens up, do some selling. Don't do any buying. I'll tell you when I think it's overdone."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Review Nov. 24

Jim Cramer, Mad Money
Focus: Retail Stocks: Although Cramer does not recommend buying all of these retail stocks now, he has listed the top ten to watch and to buy when they bottom out. While these stocks may be a bit more costly on a valuation basis, Cramer says that they are consistently strong and are the retail stocks most likely to yield an excellent profit:
Best Buy (NYSE: BBY - News): Cramer says that BBY is "The best hard goods retailer in the US ... make that the world," and dominates big-screen TV and electronics retail sales. BBY should excel in sales of new Apple iPod products.Lowe's (NYSE: LOW - News): "Smaller than Home Depot...but there is a lot of room to grow."Costco (NASDAQ: COST - News):"Cheapest and best-run of all the big warehouse stores." Cramer likes COST better than Wal-Mart, and notes that it now sells electronics, appeals to wealthy customers and pays its employees well.Men's Warehouse (NYSE: MW - News): 'They keep rolling out concept after concept."Federated Department Stores (NYSE: FD - News): This company owns Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Lord Taylor. "FD has the opportunity to turn a bunch of middle-of-the-road stores they bought from May into high-end Macy's and Bloomingdales."Sears Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: SHLD - News): Cramer sees potential for "a big turnaround," has confidence in CEO Eddie Lampert because of his success on Wall Street, and sees SHLD as a real-estate as well as a retail play.JC Penney Corporation (NYSE: JCP - News): "Great management, terrific attention to detail and they've got all the brands you want." Cramer particularly likes JCP because of the addition of Sephora cosmetics.Coldwater Creek (NASDAQ: CWTR - News): "it's a regional-to-national story...a lot of room to grow."Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX - News): They have expanded in the U.S. sufficiently, but are looking at China: "Twenty percent of Starbucks' sales will be pouring out of China 2 years from now."Commerce Bancorp (NYSE: CBH - News): This bank is "run like a retailer...will benefit bigtime from all of those Banks of NY that are going to JP Morgan... (NYSE: CBH - News) capitalizes opportunistically on the disruption."
